Design Criteria
Aloha Air Cargo Maintenance wanted to install a fall restraint system that could be used while working on the outside of the plane. Mechanics will frequently have to walk the entire exterior of the plane inspecting for flaws or do repairs. Because of the tubular shape of the fuselage, access to the exterior with stairs or platform causes a potential fall hazard. Being able to use a fall restraint system that followed them through their movement was essential. Because of the angle and distance involved, getting the correct movement to provide a fall prevention system mechanics would deem convenient to use, was critical.
Design Solution
We partnered with FallTech to create a system that would provide the safety Aloha Air Cargo wanted for their mechanics yet was convenient to use. The system had to be anchored to the roof over 30 feet up and support a 400 pound load. With that much height, it was extremely critical that the fall protection system move effortlessly with just a pull from the airplane mechanic. We mounted the system using Unistrut Hawaii construction crew to install the bridge and trolley system on the hanger roof the entire width and length of the plane. Mechanics are now able to utilize the system as they service planes in the fleet.
